At last week's opening celebrations, the Greater St. Albert Catholic Schools Board of Trustees presented Dolores Andressen, retired Teacher from Bertha Kennedy School, with the Laura Bird Memorial Beacon of Hope Award.

This award was first introduced in 2017 and recognizes a staff member who is an active and articulate witness to the One for whom Catholic schools exist – Jesus Christ. The Laura Bird Memorial Beacon of Hope Award recognizes that the best way to demonstrate witness to Jesus Christ is to do so to the most needy in the most selfless manner possible.

Dolores Andressen, who retired from Greater St. Albert Catholic Schools in June of this year, graciously accepted the honour at Opening Mass last Friday. Board Chair Becigneul commented in his remarks that Dolores has always been "well known and admired in her school community for her enthusiasm, energy and acts of service. She serves on numerous committees and has led the charge on projects that reflect many of our Catholic values. This is evident in how Dolores emulates environmental stewardship and care for God’s creation, tending to the needs of the poor and vulnerable sacrifice and a call to family, community and participation."
