February 2019
The Sod Turning Ceremony was held on the future school site and was attended by students, staff and many dignitaries including, representatives with the Alexander First Nation, Bishop Paul Terrio, Father Trini, Minister of Education, the local MLA and the Mayor of Morinville. Our Board of Trustees hosted all guests including the project partners for a warm beverage and pastry following the ceremony. With more than 80 in attendance there was certainly some excitement in the community! Photos of the construction progress will be posted to #BuildingSKT on Twitter.
November 2018
Alberta Infrastructure has awarded the Construction Contract to Jen-Col Construction Ltd. A kick-off meeting with all related consultants: Architectural and Interior Design, Civil, Structural, Mechanical, Electrical, and Landscaping is planned for November 15, 2018 at Alberta Infrastructure offices.
September 2018
Alberta Infrastructure issued an invitational tender for Construction on Friday, August 24, 2018 to the five short-listed builders (identified below) from the nineteen who responded to the pre-qualification tender which closed in June 2018. The tender will remain open to Thursday, September 20, 2018. The successful bidder will be on site in early October.

May 2018
Alberta Infrastructure posted the tender for qualification of bidders for construction of St. Kateri Tekakwitha (K-6) on the Alberta Purchasing Connection (APC) website, with a closing date of June 15, 2018. The new building construction project will include landscaping, site works and solar panel installation. The project shall attain LEED Silver Certification.
February 2018
The District continues to work with Alberta Infrastructure and is expecting to issue a construction tender soon.
October 2017
The deep underground services and some of the curb work was completed along with the sub-base of the road. The construction tender is anticipated to be issued in January 2018.
September 2017
Construction Update: The earthwork is proceeding as planned to bring the site to grade. In addition, underground servicing is in progress which includes: power, water, sewer/sanitation and the storm system. Servicing must be in place prior to road construction to provide access to the site. Alberta Infrastructure will be in a position to release the tender for construction once the road is complete. It is anticipated this will take place as early as December. All site readiness and construction progress is subject to weather conditions.
June 2017
The Board of Trustees approved Guiding Principles that will inform decisions on boundaries and programming for the school. A full consultation process will begin in the Fall 2017 that will provide families, staff, and the broader public with an opportunity to learn about the school and provide input on the school attendance area and programs.
The movement of earth on the Westwinds site is currently underway to begin the work of servicing the site. Watch for future updates on construction.
February 2017
Alberta Infrastructure is prepared to issue a tender for construction on the project once the land title is transferred to the Town of Morinville and road access to the site is available. The Town and the developer of the Westwinds site, Landrex are in discussions to make the site ready for construction.
The District and architects are working on the final plans and design of the school; plans are ahead of schedule. It is anticipated the school opening will be in 2019 and that public consultation around attendance area and programming for the school will begin this fall.
November 2016
The project will now include the addition of solar panels, a government funded initiative to demonstrate leadership on climate change. To accommodate the addition of solar panels, modifications to the initial design will be made.
October 2016
The construction project is in its final phase of site development. The design phase is now completed and the District has completed all of its required work. Once the road and access to the site is completed by the developer and/or the Town of Morinville, title for the property will shift from the developer to the Town, and tendering for the project will commence. It is anticipated that this Alberta Infrastructure managed project will be tendered by the Government of Alberta in the Spring of 2017. Please check back for future updates.
April 2016
St. Kateri Tekakwitha Academy is expected to open its doors in 2018. At this time, architects have developed conceptual drawings and are working towards detailed plans for the school building and site.

Phase 2 Consultation - March 2018
An Open House was held March 7, 2018 and an online survey was open between March 7 and 22 to gather feedback on two proposed boundary options for English elementary students and a short list of programming. A summary of information gathered through this consultation can be view in the "What We Heard Report," authored by J. Bloomfield, Strategy Plus consultant. This information will help inform decisions on an attendance area for the school and the programming offered.

The Phase 1 Consultation has concluded. A summary of the feedback received can be accessed through the "What We Heard Report," authored by J. Bloomfield, Strategy Plus consultant. The information gathered in Phase 1 was used in making decisions about the boundary options and the programming information that was presented in Phase 2.
