Grateful for Our Substitute Teachers and Substitute Support Staff!

Across the province from March 11 to 15, our district and all school systems will be recognizing the important role that our substitute teachers and substitute support staff provide in supporting student success. For our district, the support we receive from our substitute staff means that we can maintain daily routines for 6,000 students across the District.

The role of a substitute teacher or a support staff member can be characterized as anything but routine. However, what may be common to both of these roles is an early morning or last minute call from our sub-placement desk seeking an immediate placement. For many of us who have routine schedules, we appreciate that what lies ahead for substitute employment in schools is quite different from our scope of commitments. Substitutes' tasks can be challenging because they do not always have familiarity with students or have the opportunity to deepen relationships with them. However, regardless of the assignment, their support provides our staff and families the assurance that students are learning and cared for. It is our hope that the public will never see their contribution as being anything less than a leadership role. On a daily basis we count on these employees for their trust, stability, compassion, and hope; all of which are hallmarks of great leadership.

Please join me in thanking our substitute teachers and substitute support staff for the important guidance they provide to our students. Each one of them are a part of our story of success!

Our success can also be attributed to the outstanding parent engagement we have across our school communities. In closing, I would like highlight that March is the beginning of some great learning opportunities for parents. We are pleased to offer the following upcoming sessions;

  • Parenting in the Digital Age on March 13 at 7 p.m.,
  • Registered Apprenticeship Program Information Session on April 3 at 7:00 p.m., and
  • Strengths-based Parenting Session: Developing Your Child's Inner Talents, April 15 at 6:30 p.m.

All of the sessions will be held at St. Albert Catholic High School and you can register by emailing with the session title.

Thank you and may we be blessed with the arrival of some more seasonal weather!
