Have you considered being a Catholic School Board Trustee?
Nominations will be accepted on September 18, 2017 between the hours of 10 am and 12:00 noon at the Catholic School District Office in St. Albert (6 St. Vital Avenue). Candidates must live within the district boundaries to represent any Ward in which they run, and be Catholic. The Office of School Trustee is a paid position with a variety of responsibilities and commitments. Who can sign my Nomination Papers?
Nomination papers must be signed by a minimum of five (5) eligible electors prior to submission. An eligible elector must reside within the boundaries of the Ward you are choosing to run in.
A candidate may run in any of the three wards (Ward 1- St. Albert & Area; Ward 2 - Morinville & Area; or Ward 3 - Legal & Area), and while the candidate must live within the jurisdictional boundary of the District, it is not necessary to actually live in the Ward in which you are running, BUT the NOMINATION FORM, can only be signed by Catholic Electors of the Ward in which you are running.
For example, if a Candidate lives in St. Albert and chooses to run in Morinville (Ward 2), then only Morinville Catholic Electors can sign the Nomination Form.
Who can submit Nomination Papers?
Nomination papers may be handed in by any person and not necessarily by the candidate. If nomination papers are not submitted personally by the candidate, they must be properly signed and commissioned in the presence of a Commissioner for Oaths, prior to submission.
When submitted in-person, by the candidate, the papers should be signed in the presence of the Returning Officer, who will then sign and commission them.
Non-compliance with this requirement may result in disqualification of the candidate.
What do I need to bring when I submit my Nomination Papers?
- Completed "Nomination Form"
- Signed "Disclosure of Candidate Information"
- Completed "Why I am running Candidate Profile Form"
- High resolution photo (head/shoulders image on solid background)*
*If you submit your nomination papers at the school district office and don't have a suitable photo, a District representative will be available to take your photo on September 18, 2017 to post on the website. This photo service may not be available at other sites accepting nomination papers.
