Superintendent’s Update: Students, Parents/Legal Guardians, and Staff

As we continue on the sacred journey of Lent, I am grateful for the incredible progress and achievements we have witnessed in the first six months of this school year. Our collective commitment to academic excellence, spiritual growth, and community service has been nothing short of inspiring. I am particularly proud of the remarkable strides our students have made, showcasing their dedication to learning and living out our Catholic values.

Lenten Campaign

This Lent, all GSACRD school communities are encouraged to participate in the annual GSACRD Lenten Campaign to fundraise for Catholic Social Services in support of Immigration and Settlement Services and the Refugee Relief Fund. In particular, we are supporting a program called Parenting In Two Cultures.

Parenting in Two Cultures helps refugees, immigrants and multicultural families learn how to adapt to Canadian culture. This program provides guidance on how to raise healthy, happy families and their children as they build their new lives in Canada while maintaining their ethnic identity. This program also helps participants connect with other parents and children facing similar challenges. For its part, GSACRD has set a goal of raising $15,000 to support the Refugee Relief Program.

“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me because he has anointed me to bring glad tidings to the poor.  He has sent me to proclaim liberty to captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to let the oppressed go free..’” (Luke 4:17-19)

Alberta Education Assurance Survey Responses

The Alberta Education Assurance Survey for students, staff, and parents/guardians of students in grades 4, 7 and 10 (and select students from other grades where there are fewer than 120 students in grades 4, 7 and 10) is currently open, and we encourage you to take the time to complete it.  This survey provides valuable feedback to school jurisdictions to better understand what works well and what areas may require focus. Please note this survey differs from the Division Assurance Survey, which you have already completed and will remain open until March 1. Your time and participation are sincerely appreciated.

Lenten Blessings

This Lenten season invites us to reflect on our individual and collective journeys, fostering a spirit of compassion, gratitude, and renewal. I offer a few simple prayers, available on Hallow (the Hallow app is an excellent resource for prayer and reflection and encourage everyone to check it out), as we endeavour to draw closer to God during this time of Lent:

  • “God, may Your light guide my day, and your spirit bring me peace. Amen.”
  • “God, may my sacrifice of today of (state your Lenten sacrifice) remind me of my dependence on You for all the blessings I enjoy. Amen.”
  • “May I stand in solidarity today with all my brothers and sisters around the world who are suffering. May we be united in your love, and may I work to build your kingdom here on earth.”
  • “God, I lift up (name of the person you’d like to pray for) today. I ask that you bless them abundantly today and throughout Lent. Amen.”

May this season be a time of deep reflection, drawing us closer to our faith and strengthening the bonds that make our school community truly exceptional. Wishing you all a blessed Lent filled with spiritual enrichment and continued success in the coming months.

With heartfelt gratitude,
Dr. Clint Moroziuk
Superintendent of Schools
