Advanced Placement (AP) - Grades 10-12
Our high schools offer unique Advanced Placement (AP) opportunities. Below, we describe each High School AP program and how our elementary and junior high schools provide students with similar enrichment opportunities throughout their learning journey in our division.
Morinville Community High School (MCHS) offers Computer Science Principles Advanced Placement in which students learn how to program to move things in real life (robots), and virtually (virtual worlds). The school is starting Art Advanced Placement, and students will work on portfolios that will help them to get into post-secondary programs.
École Secondaire St. Albert Catholic High School (SACHS) offers advanced placement programming in courses that can be taken separately, so students can take one course that they have a passion for as opposed to several courses. In grade 10, students can start and decide which course they would like to do at an advanced level as they progress in grades 11 and 12.
Enhanced Academic Programming (EAP) - Grades 7-9 or Grades 6-8
Enhanced Academic Programming (EAP) - Grades 7-9 or 6-8 is an advanced-level program for junior high students.
Students are provided with opportunities to choose enrichment tasks and assignments to deepen their knowledge and advance their skills and competencies (in such areas as critical and creative thinking and communication) in varied subjects. Advanced Placement (AP) programming prepares high school students for college and university studies. It is recognized by post-secondary institutions for dual credit (high school and post-secondary).
École Georges H. Primeau Middle School will inspire students to learn about the MCHS Computer Science AP course by visiting the program and by offering a junior computer science principles course for all students through a variety of introductory activities that encourage computational thinking.
École Secondaire Sainte Marguerite d'Youville will inspire students to prepare for participation in the SACHS Advanced Placement program through a Project-based Learning AP-prep option course.
Richard S. Fowler Catholic Junior High School will inspire students to learn about the SACHS Advanced Placement program by engaging in enrichment activities through project-based learning in a Project-based Learning AP-prep option course.
Vincent J. Maloney Catholic Junior High School will inspire students to learn about the SACHS Advanced Placement program by engaging in enrichment activities through project-based learning in a Project-based Learning AP-prep option course.
Sister Alphonse Academy will be inspiring students to learn about the SACHS Advanced Placement program by engaging in enrichment activities through project-based learning in a Project-based Learning AP-prep option course. Further opportunities are provided for exploration through our core subjects and in our EXCEL Block.
Advanced Academic Programming (AAP- Grades 4-6)
Advanced Academic Programming (AAP- Grades 4-6) is an opportunity for elementary students to take part in enriched and challenging academic programming, deepening their learning in one or more particular subjects. Such programming prepares students to continue their advanced academic course work (Enhanced Academic Programming) in junior high and, eventually, in Advanced Placement (AP) programming in high school. AAP students complete academically advanced assignments within their core courses through an inquiry-based approach to learning.
St. Kateri Tekakwitha Academy will inspire students to learn about the MCHS Computer Science AP course by visiting the program and by taking up exploration of computing science as a tool for learning in dynamic options and transferring within and across subjects and grades. For example, during “Hour of Code Week”, as an example, all students will be introduced to and take part in computer science activities at an age-appropriate level.
Sister Alphonse Academy will inspire students to learn about enrichment that is available in SACHS through Advanced Placement Programming and in our own school at the junior high level and by exploring what enrichment means in project-based learning in core subjects, dynamic options, and Booster Block.
