Respectful Inclusive Supported Education (RISE) for junior and senior high school students

The Respectful Inclusive Supported Education (RISE) is a personalized educational experience designed for students requiring diverse specialized supports to meet their goals. Rooted in the importance of connection, communication, and relationships, RISE fosters collaboration with students, families, and educators to achieve success.

Students in a RISE program are provided a faith-filled program ensuring their unique strengths and needs are supported to participate in provincial curriculum connections. Students in RISE have access to a designated teacher and learning team responsible for structuring a specific learning plan.

Programming may include:

  • Communication and social skills
  • Functional  literacy and numeracy
  • Academic goals
  • Access to participate in cores and options in unique ways
  • Independence and self-advocacy skills
  • Life skills development
  • Authentic community experiences, such as:
    • volunteering
    • recreation and leisure activities
    • work placement opportunities

Through an inclusive learning environment, students in RISE are offered flexible learning spaces such as:

  • multiple classrooms
  • small group instruction
  • a single classroom
  • the school and the community

Students who qualify for RISE programming have cognitive and/or diagnosed learning exceptionalities and other diverse needs. Students will participate in school-based graduation events and activities and receive a Certificate of Completion from Alberta Education instead of a high school diploma.
