Annually, our schools and parishes recognize Catholic Education Sunday on the first Sunday in November. This year, Catholic Education Sunday will be celebrated on November 3. We encourage staff, students and their families to attend their local Parishes. A complete list of parishes that our schools are affiliated with can be found on our website.
Catholic Education Sunday is a time to give thanks to God for the blessing of Catholic education, and we pray in a special way for all students, teachers, staff, administrators and trustees of our Catholic schools. Annually, the Bishops of Alberta and the Northwest Territories share a message for Catholic Education Sunday. The message emphasizes our collective role in Catholic education, and encourages us to pray for our Catholic Schools "that God may lead them in faithfulness, wisdom and charity; get informed about the issues; and commit to the work of advocacy to sustain their future." The letter also expresses gratitude for "the opportunity to provide faith-based education to more than 180,000 students in Alberta and for the teachers, administrators, parents, students, priests and parishioners who are committed to Catholic Education."
The complete Bishop's letter is available in English and French, along with the Novena for Catholic Education Sunday.
This year the Bishops of Alberta and the Northwest Territories have also shared a video message (available below):
