Superintendent’s Update: Students, Parents/Legal Guardians, and Staff

As we wrap up another remarkable year in Greater St. Albert Catholic Schools, we pause to reflect on all that has been accomplished together. From academic growth to artistic expression, athletic achievement to acts of service, this school year has been a powerful reminder of what is possible when students are nurtured in a community rooted in love, care, and faith. The dedication of our staff, the support of our families, and the perseverance of our students have made this a year to remember…a year that now gives way to a well-earned season of summer rest and renewal.

New Collective Agreement Ratified with CUPE Local 2550

Greater St. Albert Catholic Schools (GSACRD) is pleased to announce the ratification of a new four-year collective agreement with CUPE Local 2550, representing the division’s educational support staff in Morinville and Legal. The new agreement is effective from September 1, 2024, to August 31, 2028. This agreement represents a positive step forward for our school division. We are grateful for the collaborative efforts of the CUPE Local 2550 bargaining committee.

Update on Alberta Teachers' Association Strike Vote
The Alberta Teachers' Association (ATA) members have voted in favour of strike action. Of the approximately 39,000 teachers who participated in the vote, 95% supported the decision. We recognize that this is an unsettling time for our staff, students, and their families. We remain committed to providing timely updates as new information becomes available.

What You Need to Know:

  • Bargaining between the Alberta Teachers' Association (ATA) and the Teachers’ Employer Bargaining Association (TEBA) occurs at the provincial level. Individual school divisions, including GSACRD, are not directly involved in these negotiations.
  • Teacher salaries and working conditions are set through provincial collective agreements, not through local school boards.
  • With the strike vote having passed, teachers have 120 days to take action unless a resolution is made between the provincial government’s Teachers’ Employer Bargaining Association and the ATA. Should they choose to proceed, they are required to give school divisions at least 72 hours’ notice before any job action begins.
  • Possible job actions may include work-to-rule, rotating strikes, or a full strike.
  • Negotiations between the ATA and TEBA will continue August 26–29.
An agreement can be reached at any point in this process, which could prevent job action altogether.

We remain hopeful that a resolution will be reached with minimal learning and daily operations disruption. However, out of an abundance of caution, we encourage families to consider childcare arrangements should a strike occur in the fall.

Greater St. Albert Catholic Schools will continue communicating with families and staff as soon as any new developments arise. Please check our dedicated webpage for updates.

Report Cards

Report cards will be available by June 27th, 2025 and are accessible through the PowerSchool Parent Portal. As a reminder, here is how to locate a student’s report cards:

Please use an internet browser to access the PowerSchool Parent Portal, as the mobile app is incompatible. After logging in, find a list of navigation links on the left-hand side. At the bottom of this list, click the link labelled "report card" to proceed to the next screen.

After clicking the report card link, you can view the report card in PDF format. Additionally, there's an option to download the report card. Once downloaded, you can save or print a copy for your records. For visual guidance, you can watch this brief instructional video on accessing the report card: Report Card Video.

If you have not created a PowerSchool Parent Portal account, please contact your child’s school for assistance.

Prayers and Blessings

As we reach the close of another school year, I want to extend heartfelt gratitude to our students, staff, and families for the many ways you have contributed to a year filled with growth, learning, and grace. This year, the second of our three-year faith theme, Growing in the Trinity: Love, Mercy & Grace, we reflected on what it means to “Grow in Mercy with the Son.” In classrooms, chapels, hallways, and homes, we witnessed acts of compassion, forgiveness, and service that revealed Christ’s mercy alive in our community. I humbly offer the following prayer on behalf of our division and its respective school communities, adapted from Catholic Household Blessings and Prayers:

God of wisdom,

We thank You for all the gifts You have given us throughout this school year.

We praise You for giving us life,

for saving us in Christ

and for choosing us to be Your people.

As we come to the end of this school year,

we voice our gratitude for the good things You have done in us,

and we praise You for all who have shared in the work of our schools.

We ask You to bless them in Your love and give them refreshment and peace.

We praise You, God, through Jesus Christ, our Lord,

who lives and reigns forever and ever.

Amen.

As we now step into the slower rhythm of summer, may the peace of this season renew your spirit and remind you of God’s abiding love. Thank you for choosing Greater St. Albert Catholic Schools!

In Christ,

Dr. Clint Moroziuk
