Greater St. Albert Catholic Schools (GSACRD) has been announced a recipient of the 2020 Don Clifton Strengths for Students Award. Presented by Gallup, this award recognizes school authorities, colleges, and universities that enable students to apply their strengths to thrive in school and in all areas of their lives. This award puts GSACRD in some distinguished company. The division joins 4 other leading global educational institutions in earning this prestigious distinction, and it is the only K-to-Grade-12 division to earn the award.

“We are honoured to be a part of such an elite group of institutions and to be internationally recognized for our intentional focus on identifying and nurturing students’ natural strengths,” says David Keohane, superintendent of schools.

“By making strengths a way of life, GSACRD – as part of this global community of schools – helps students turn their talents into strengths, which, in turn, fosters optimal academic achievement, engagement, and wellbeing, thereby setting them up to succeed as young people and adults. I hope this announcement resonates with our students, families, and staff, whose resiliency grows stronger through positive news such as this.”

GSACRD has built a system that is connected by strengths. Students in grades 4 through 12 use Clifton StrengthsExplorer or CliftonStrengths for Students to learn their unique talents, which are then included in online student information system. Students from “Health Champion” teams in schools, integrating students’ strengths into wellness sessions. Specifically, students share how to set and meet goals and leverage their strengths to make their success likely. Parents also take strengths assessments and consider how to work with their own strengths – and their child’s strengths – to support their child in setting and meeting their goals and to thrive in life.

In 2020, Gallup added this new award to its existing Gallup Exceptional Workplace Award, which GSACRD has earned for the past four consecutive years. Gallup account teams nominated their clients, and a judging panel reviewed the applications to determine the winners, who were announced on May 25. Award-winners will be showcased in an award exhibit hall during the Gallup at Work Virtual Summit on June 2.
