Superintendent’s Update: Students, Parents/Legal Guardians, and Staff

Good day, everyone! I hope that you are all well and that you or your loved ones have not been significantly impacted by the wildfires. It is hard to believe that we are on the cusp of the final month of the 2022-23 school year. I am proud of all that has been accomplished by the students and staff of Greater St. Albert Catholic Schools and look forward to what the next month brings.

École Sacré Coeur - Renaming Announcement

We are delighted to share an extraordinary change taking place within our school communities. It is with great pride and joy that we announce the new name for École Marie Poburan to École Sacré Coeur!

This renaming is a heartfelt tribute to the rich history and heritage that École Marie Poburan and École Father Jan have embraced throughout the years. The name École Sacré Coeur embodies the school’s deep devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, symbolizing our commitment to faith and community. It serves as a testament to the strong sense of togetherness and collaboration among our dedicated staff, students, and families.

Moving forward as École Sacré Coeur, we are excited to continue our journey of fostering academic excellence, spiritual growth, and holistic development for every student. This momentous occasion marks the beginning of a new era in our division's history, filled with endless possibilities and boundless potential.

Additionally, current namesakes will continue to be honoured, with the chapel at École Secondaire Ste Marguerite d’Youville being named the Father Jan Chapel, the library at École Sacré Coeur (ESC) being designated as the Marie Poburan Library, and a garden or park area at ESC being named in honour of St. Francis, the patron saint of École Father Jan, as well as ecology and animals.

We would like to extend a special note of gratitude to the members of the naming committee who dedicated their time and expertise to developing the new name. Their thoughtful contributions and careful consideration have played an integral role in shaping this important milestone.

GSACS Education Foundation monthly message

As May draws to a close, we find ourselves a few short weeks away from our first-ever Charity Golf Classic in support of the GSACS Education Foundation at the beautiful Sturgeon Valley Golf and Country Club (PS, the course is in excellent shape). Please join us on the golf course to help make this day a success, ultimately allowing us to better serve our students and our schools.

We have scheduled a shotgun start at 8 AM but are in need of many more golfers to make this happen. We have a $10,000 hole-in-one opportunity, Beat Matt Benning hole (former SACHS grad, Edmonton Oiler and current San Jose Shark), as well as various hole prizes and putting contests followed by a great meal and silent auction. Thanks, and God Bless

School Registration and Enrolment

We are thrilled to share some exciting news with you in our latest newsletter. Our school division has been experiencing a remarkable trend in growth over the past year. The dedication and commitment of our students, teachers, and staff have resulted in incredible academic and personal achievements. This upward trajectory reflects our shared vision for providing the best possible education in a loving, caring, faith-filled environment for every child in our community.

As we look ahead to the upcoming school year, we kindly remind all families to register their students promptly. With the increasing demand for enrolment in our schools, securing your child's place early will ensure they have a seamless transition into the new academic year.

Summer School

Grades 1 - 8

Super Cool Summer School offers a variety of great courses for kids in Grades 1-8. Low student ratios offer extra help as well as enrichment with a focus on individualization. Emphasis will be on positive learning and will build skills, knowledge and confidence. Interesting and innovative teaching will revisit concepts that may have been difficult and prepare for future grades. All academic classes are taught by certified teachers. Click here to learn more.

Grades 9 - 12 - Core Classes

Core course classes begin on June 30th with a mandatory Core Course Starter Session (8-9:30 am) and will run until July 26. All core classes will be on-campus at St. Albert Catholic High School this year. Much of this time will have students accessing their learning materials online. Teachers will be giving mini-lessons throughout the day.

Students will spend 5-6 hours per day at SACHS, which will allow them to have regular and frequent contact with the teacher to complete their core course by July 26th.  Missing one day of courses is like missing a week in a semester, therefore, students are not able to be absent for even one day.

Grades 9 - 12 Complimentary High School Courses

Take complimentary high school courses like CALM (Career and Life Management), Phys Ed, and Religious Studies online this summer. You can take two of these courses in one summer.

  • You can also take a face-to-face Phys Ed 10 in six days between July 4 - 11, 2023.
  • Grade 9-12 students can take these online courses from anywhere as long as wifi is available.
  • Online classes begin on July 4th with a mandatory online orientation and will be completed by July 21st.

June Blessings

May the blessings of God be poured abundantly upon the students, staff, and families of Greater St. Albert Catholic Schools as we embark upon the final month of this school year. In this sacred time, let us come together in gratitude and reflection, cherishing our shared journey.

To the students, you have filled these halls with your laughter, curiosity, and unwavering spirit. Throughout the year, you have grown not only in knowledge but also in character. May God's grace guide you as you face the challenges that lie ahead, empowering you to be the change-makers and leaders of tomorrow.

To the dedicated staff, you have selflessly devoted yourselves to nurturing the minds and souls of our students. Your passion and commitment have been a beacon of light, igniting the flame of learning within each child. May God bless you abundantly for your tireless efforts, and may you find strength and inspiration in knowing the profound impact you make every day.

To the families, you are the cornerstone of our community, providing unwavering love, support, and encouragement. Your partnership with our schools has fostered an environment of growth and excellence. May God's grace continue to guide you in your role as the primary educators of your children, and may you find solace in knowing that your efforts shape the future.

As we approach this month of transition, let us remember the precious moments that have woven us together as a community. Let us honour the achievements, the friendships, and the lessons learned. May June be a time of celebration, reflection, and anticipation for the wonderful possibilities that await us.

With heartfelt prayers and gratitude, we entrust the Greater St. Albert Catholic Schools community to the tender care of our Heavenly Father. May His grace accompany you today and always. Amen.

In Christ,

Dr. Clint Moroziuk
