Superintendent’s Update: Students, Parents/Legal Guardians, and Staff
Greetings from the Superintendent
As we come to the end of September, it is hard to believe how quickly the month has flown by. In these first weeks of the school year, we have already seen so many examples of our faith theme, Growing in Grace, with the Spirit, being lived out in our classrooms and school communities. From the welcome extended to new students and families, to the many acts of kindness and service, it is clear that God’s Spirit is at work among us.
At the same time, we are mindful of broader developments in education across Alberta. Teachers across the province will be voting this weekend on a Memorandum of Agreement that has been reached between the Alberta Teachers’ Association and the Teachers’ Employer Bargaining Association. Regardless of the outcome, please be assured that we will continue to keep families updated and focused on what matters most…supporting the learning and well-being of our students. We also ask for your continued prayers for a resolution that is fair for teachers and for the flourishing of the young people entrusted to our care.

National Day for Truth and Reconciliation
The National Day for Truth and Reconciliation on September 30th is a day intended to honour the children who never returned home, the Survivors of residential schools, their families, and their communities. Public commemoration of residential schools' tragic and painful history and ongoing impacts is vital to the reconciliation process. Greater St. Albert Catholic Schools is committed to working towards meaningful reconciliation through the efforts of our First Nations, Métis, and Inuit Leadership Committee, which includes Elders and representatives from our local Indigenous communities as part of its membership. We also strive to share stories and educate students and staff through professional development opportunities and in-class learning.
As we mark the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation next week, I encourage everyone to wear orange, learn about the history of Canada’s Indigenous peoples and the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s 94 Calls to Action, and connect with family and the land. As we prepare to commemorate the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, we humbly ask that God grant us one heart and one mind to walk together in the love and strength of the Holy Spirit in truth, reconciliation, and peace.
Treaty 6 and Metis Flags at Division Services Centre
On September 9, 2025, our Division held a historic Treaty 6 and Métis Flag-Raising Ceremony at the Division Services Centre. Elders, leaders from Alexander First Nation, the Otipemisiwak Métis Government, and the St. Albert Métis District joined trustees, staff, and community partners for a celebration that included prayer, an Elder blessing, drum songs, and the formal raising of the flags.
These flags now fly permanently as visible reminders of our shared commitment to truth and reconciliation, and of the strong relationships we continue to build with our First Nations and Métis partners. For our schools, they also stand as daily symbols of respect, resilience, and hope.
As a Catholic school division, this moment is a powerful expression of faith in action as we endeavour to live out our call to justice, healing, and honouring the dignity of all peoples. Together, we continue the journey of meaningful reconciliation through learning, dialogue, and partnership.
2025 Trustee Election
As we look ahead, we want to remind our school communities that the 2025 Trustee Election is approaching. This election is an important opportunity for families, staff, and community members to help shape the future of Catholic education in Greater St. Albert Catholic Schools. We encourage you to take some time to learn more about the candidates who are running and the election process by visiting our website: GSACRD Trustee Election Information. Your voice and participation make a difference in ensuring strong leadership for our schools.
We also invite you to read the letter from the Catholic Bishops of Alberta regarding the upcoming municipal/trustee election. It offers thoughtful reflections on the importance of Catholic education and encourages all in our community to engage — whether by voting, praying, or considering candidacy. You can view the letter and related materials here: Elections & Catholic Education. Please pray for our candidates as we draw ever closer to the election.
Prayer for Thanksgiving
As we look ahead to Thanksgiving, it is a time to pause and recognize the many blessings in our lives: our families, our schools, our faith, and the gift of community. Yet, as people of faith, we are also reminded to keep in prayer those who carry heavy burdens—those without work, without food, or without a safe place to call home.
I share with you this Thanksgiving prayer from Catholic Digest (written by Samuel F. Pugh), which beautifully captures the spirit of gratitude and compassion we are called to live:
O God, when I have food, help me to remember the hungry;
When I have work, help me to remember the jobless;
When I have a home, help me to remember those who have no home at all;
When I am without pain, help me to remember those who suffer,
And remembering, help me to destroy my complacency;
bestir my compassion, and be concerned enough to help;
By word and deed, those who cry out for what we take for granted.
Amen.
May this season of Thanksgiving be one of joy, gratitude, and renewal for all our families, and may God’s Spirit guide us to extend our blessings to those most in need. I am grateful for each of our students, staff members, and families…and I wish each of you God’s most abundant blessings now and always.
With heartfelt gratitude,
Dr. Clint Moroziuk
