IMPORTANT UPDATE: New Access and Privacy Laws in Effect June 11, 2025
As of June 11, 2025, the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FOIP) is no longer in use. Alberta has introduced new access and privacy legislation through the following updated laws: the Access to Information Act (ATIA) and the Protection of Privacy Act (POPA).
Greater St. Albert Catholic Schools will continue to use the documents referring to FOIP until we have completed the updated documentation.
Please see the following guidelines for the implementation of new legislation:
- Information requests received on or before June 11, 2025 will follow the old FOIP rules.
- Requests received on or after June 12, 2025 will follow the new ATIA rules.
Greater St. Albert Catholic Schools is committed to meeting the obligations under the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy (FOIP) Act. Under the FOIP Act, personal information is defined as any recorded information about an identifiable individual, including, but not limited to, an individual's name, address, age, educational history, identifying number, and medical history. The Division ensures that all records are maintained in a time and cost effective manner to meet the Division’s legislated responsibilities.
The FOIP Act ensures that Greater St. Albert Catholic Schools:
- Provides the general right of access to information that is in the possession of GSACRD
- Protects the privacy of personal information

There are instances when Greater St. Albert Catholic Schools may use and disclose personal information without written consent. For more information please see the School Division Use of Personal Information Notice.
To access general records, please use the Divisions’ Access to Information Form. All requests for general records must be accompanied by the $25.00 fee and will not be considered until fees are paid in full.
